feeling that brotherhood

i viewed BMTC combined Games Day on Fri.
it's always very different when you are not part of the it
but i can sense it
from the spirit... to the trust... to the brotherhood.. to the cooperation

the whole ptp/enhanced cohort are gathered at the parade square in front of HQ BMTC. for us it's an excellent view.
I have not trained these recruits.. but seeing people from all race and ethnicity gathered here cheering for something they identify with, i can't help but feel touched.
At that moment, you no longer call each other Sir, Sergeant, fellow recruits, but BROTHERS.
and esp when everyone sings the Infantry Song together.

"From the land, air and sea,
we will strike our enemies,
they have called us the Queen of the Battlefield...
We are brothers in arms
We are brothers proud to be
We are the first, the one and only infantry"

for a moment, i respect the commanders...
aren't they like teachers... (forget the power that they wield)

Troy

i've watched troy last mon...
wanted to add a few of my own comments...
but i'm totally tied down by the investigation report i am doing in army, planning for the FOC program, and giving tuition.

Troy.
If you had known the story quite well before watching...
you're gonna start scratching head/curse/disappointed/cannot concentrate on the beautiful CGI that's flood the movie.
Yes... they twisted a lot of the facts.
Quite a lot of things diff from Homer's Iliad.

I'm not an expert on Iliad.. but these are some errors the movie purposely/acidentally made

1 The Trojan War was a war fought over 10 years... well.. how the heck did it end it a few weeks?

2 It's a pity all the Gods are out, because on the launch of the Greek fleet, Aphrodite, by the will of storms, sanked half the Greek fleet.

3 ok forget about the part that Achilles was brought up as a girl since it was not mentioned or focused on in the movie

4 Menelaus didn't die in the very first battle. First of all he didn't die. He eventually got back Helen and died peacefully back in Sparta. Without him, there would not be the famous Odyssey's voyage when Odyssey's son confirmed his father's "death" with Menelaus.

5 Agamemnon didn't die in Troy as well. He got the spoils of the war, and was killed by his wife's lover back home. There's an interesting side story regarding this. If interested, go read up on Iliad.

6 Ajax, the warhammer-weilding big guy wasn't killed by Hector either. He died after Achilles, when he and Odyssey competed for the late Achilles' armour, which was a gift from God.

7 Now that's interesting, Achilles died before the Trojan Horse was built. He was killed by Paris, who shot an arrow at him, and the arrow was guided by Apollo (who's temple Achilles destroyed) to hit his heel. He died from the injury. It's also a pity in the movie that Achille's invincibility was played down, and the Achille's heel thing was far from satisfying.

8 King Priam was not killed by Agamemnon definitely not.

9 About the Trojan Horse, interestingly, Paris doubled up as his own sister and prohpet, Cassandra, who asked the horse to be burnt. The story about Lacoon throwing the spear to test the horse's hollowness and killed by 2 sea serpent was not filmed also. And yes, the horse was too tall to bring into Troy. Part of Troy's front gate were demolished to bring in the horse.

10 in one version i read, Helen killed Paris when Troy fell, in front of Menelaus so she could live. But definitely, Paris was killed.

ok... as far as i can remember... that should be about it.
i've read other friend's blogs... which have more detailed critiques.

Ha... but this is a good movie.
The struggles of man was portrayed in the absences of Gods.
if i hadn't know the story to such extent, i think i would have enjoyed the movie more.
but nonetheless, it's a good movie!

utterly glad...
results of cos...keke

with reference to my post during pre-exam periods...
i made a hypothesis that my cap would drop... and it will go in one direction...

ok... i'm not that good with stats after all.
the impossible result came out.
and it's not within my prediction.
(ok... i've got A- for Stats 1 though... yeh!)

am i so glad man...
i've managed to pull my cap up.
it's totally unexpected before the exams...

Many thanks to whoever blessed me, and thanks for all those encouragement all you out there has given me.

Extreme thanks to Sam for your invaluable post on exam answering techniques, which i managed to internalise and modify to my own style just before exams.

Have been meeting a lot of NUS disruptees back in BMTC also.
They are different from me as in they have completed 3 years in NUS.
but they are a great bunch to be with.

as for myself... it's seems like i'm going to take a big break from swaps at the end of my term. and it's time to refine my studies...

Recovering from viruses

hmm... seemed to have disappeared for a few days.
but i was kept busy.

busy fighting virus!
damn
kenna infected by W32.gaobot virus variants
a dangerous virus cause there are lots of variants and not every one of them has cure yet. mine hasn't.
and it affects a lot a lot of files.
i didn't know what to do, fortunately i have a bunch of more IT savvy friends who helped me to overcome the problem
but i've learnt my lesson.

people. please protect your computer.
if you can, please take some of these following measures.

--------------------------------------------------------------

1 Setup a quality firewall, i recommend ZoneAlarm, which is a good firewall that is free to use.

2 Update your antivirus program. Norton or any other antivirus that might offer regular update or automatic update is highly recommended because the viruses nowadays are super tough and can mutate rapidly. keeping up-to-date with virus definitions is very important.

3 b4 you can do that, you must update your windows, if not an updated antivirus program would be useless. go to your IE -> Tools -> Windows Update and click and find the essential critical updates! Patch your computer this way to avoid virus exploiting the loopholes.

4 after updating your antivirus, run a full system scan and seek out the worms. set your settings to "repair file and quarantine if unsuccessful" so that the infection would at least be checked if there's no cure for it yet.

5 Download Ad-aware 6.0 (another free program) to scan and system and dig out all the spyware and tracking devices.
will have option to delete them at the end of it.

--------------------------------------------------------------

All the above-mentioned programs can be downloaded at www.download.com. quite free to use.
And if the antivirus quarantined the virus, it's not cleared yet. wait for a while for the people online to formulate a cure then go download/ update your antivirus and then go clean it again!

Hopefully these will help you to save some parts of your computer such that you will have time to react and counter the virus attack. If not, get the cures from your friends and install without going online.
people.... prevention is better than cure.

finally for those who had kenna liao
check out this place for the "cure" and some advice.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/Security/default.mspx

last but not least... learn to recognise some symptons of virus infection
1. super slow computer
2. certain or a lot of programs suddenly cannot open
3. can't access net
4. etc... you go read...
(but yah, they are just some common features, not say virus must have these kind of things.)
