nite hike 27 dec 03
what a hike...
it's really really not that good.
what made me stay on... was to support vonvonne in action, and talking just about anything to my friends.
and thus i simply enjoyed chatting all the way with Yueheng and Hanyong. We were talking a lot of cock esp army stuff, all the way from the macdonald's to esplanade.
and later on with Nana, Shin, Ah meng.
Singing, charades, watever.
I think i enjoyed singing during hikes. Days of the old where we sang and sang and sang during all the sea sports camps, etc. pity we didn't sing much yesternight, i sang a lot though. but if i can entertian others with my voice, why not? that is if they find it nice to hear!!!!
i like singing all the older songs, late 80s to early 90s.
they had more meaningful lyrics, and the singers then really really really had talent. not like today where you can digitally enhance voices.
one part of the singing which i really enjoyed, was when we walked along the wat Gallery of Stars thing, where there were a handprints of a lot of singers. So as we past by one singer, we sing their most famous songs! i wasn't able to sing every single one lah, but i probably got 95%? june called me a jukebox i think, and it was till then that i realise, yah ah, actually i do know a lot of songs, just that i only know few lines of each.
saw a lot of she-males as ah heng calls them, but they look so woman, also some chio bus still lurking around at the dhoby ghuat kopititam we stopped at, must be after cheong then supper.
the hike itself might not be memorable, but the talking and singing sort of made up for it.
but i shall get myself into a night cycling thing next time, hee.

无题
i feel that i'm "literally" dry.
haven't started anything for the theme “叶子”.
i dun even think of writing at all, it's CM03/04 or internet everyday.
but today,

Absolut-leeU aftermath
ha... i am a procrastinator this month
look down the blog ... you will find one entry not finished, the Absolut-leeU 03 one...
i am a procrastinator in other areas also, my website for swaps, finding lobang for tuition... etc etc etc
but well i shall just highlight somethings along the way to make up for that.
it will just be the things about the camp that lasted in my mind.
Warm fuzzy
somehow... this was the thing that changed my mind about the camp.
for the whole 2 days, i didn't write any warm fuzzy notes... found that no need, or bo liao
but by the last day, i was busy writing warm fuzzies... well it was a good end to the camp
i realised how impt it was to leave something memorable for others in the camp.
my belief was confirmed by the warm fuzzies i received.
got quite a few of that... i mean... they really left you something encouraging about the camp, left you sometimes happy to have done something that made others feel better in camp, or made him feel lucky to be in the camp with you...
su su left me something memorable,
ben left me something memorable,
yingzhen left me something memorable,
kelly left me something memorable.
of the last 2, i only knew them during the camp, yet to have some words from them also proved to be very heart-warming.
Should keep this tradition during the next Absolut.

6/8 Grace Class Gathering
Haven't been bloggin in a long time
somehow i touch computer i would think of the website thing
still in the process of starting, which is bad. but i do believe i can get the thing out before hols end. If i work hard at it, i will. Now it looks like i am rather alone for this. Somehow, a website thing is hard to be a team effort for me now, at least i dunno how to make it one now. But i shall take up the challenge.
Since in the end, anything that doesn't kill me, only makes me stronger.
I had a Pri Class Gathering yesterday, 20 Dec 03 (For records purpose)
I started this thing, but credits must all go to Darryl and Weizhen for settling most of the things. We had just one meeting, settle the planning, then wait for date to draw nearer to do the bbq stuff. Rest is just contacting. So i was caught up by my pubs stuff... constant;y bothered by it. So when Darryl offered to help me share the burden of organising the rest of the gathering stuff... i was so touched, so grateful. Thanks Darryl.
So when everyone start thanking me for organising the stuff... i sort of cannot help but try to deny the credit, cos i know i really didn't do as much, although i initiated this.
Hmmm, a few of us went early to get the food stuff. Well who? woah, a whoppy 9 of us.
Baikun, Sanjay, Darryl, Me, Cui'en, Weiyi, Weizhen, Grace Koh and Aaron. Well Aaron and Weiyi were chauffers too, so transport was easy. Yup, the gals went first, while we went to get the gifts and wait for Aaron, who, sort of messed up his hair, in an attempt to impress or be happening for yesternight. Got Famous Amos cookies for the 2 teachers.
So we arrived early, and started chatting and talking cock first at Mrs Cheng's house. Then when people arrive at MRT station liao, then Darryl Sanjay Weiyi go fetch them. But got alot of latecomers, and only Weiyi's car need to be used. Since it was a persistent rain, we bbq-ed indoor. Outside Mrs Cheng's house. So sad, cos the guys bao ga liao all the cooking, everyone else just eat and talk. Credits to the Chefs, Baikun ,Sanjay, Alvin Choo, Aaron, Ivan, Joshua and maybe some more. But i'm glad to see everyone chatting so happily with each other.
Halfway thru, sneaked off with Aaron to go fetch Zhiwei and Weifen. Ha, it was timely as the fire was damn hot, and the heat was scalding my hands. Sharon came later after her rehearsal too. Thanks to Aaron the chauffer for the whole day.
Hmm, talk about the teachers? Mr Soong and Mrs Cheng. I think we all enjoy chatting with Mr Soong, still so witty, and sarcastic. When he first came, ha, he had problem recognising a few of us. But surprisingly, when he turned to me? he called out "Officer". I was like huh? How did he know? Well he saw my mother, and talked to her before. Well, well... so good memory, they both recognise each other. Some of the errors he made, as far as i remembered, was Alvin the Dinosaur. Well it was Ivan the Dinosaur. He couldn't recognise Joshua He also. Well, starting i also cannot recognise.
The party turned out to be quite a good catching up session. In the cosy home of Mrs Cheng's house. When everyone came in and sat around in a circle, we talked about a lot of old stuff. Everyone brought out something they remembered, and woah... it was a considerable amount of stuff we had done in the past. And was so glad everyone remembered so many things. And was so surprised we did so many memorable stuff in the past. Mrs Cheng also commented that we impressed her as a very united class. Certain friendship last.
Some of the things we brought out yesternight, even i forgot liao. Like, the food making competition which had Sujun's Siew Mai winning, and group prepared food galore, the national day flag we made, the wayang kulit we did, mr soong's birthday the coffee treat, alvin tearing his shirt after he went to retrieve his worksheet which flew out of the window, lots and lots more.
Also heard from Mr Soong, Janice Law studying in NIE now, becoming a teacher? heard Grace Koh say she didn't go to Uni, well, to me it was surprising cos she was good in studies in Pri Sch. So I guess it was interest.
Also some of the more interesting thing we found out about each other? Iggy is a Commando Officer, well shitty life, but prestigious life. Carol working now, and studying wat hotel management thing i think. And also A was together with GN once... and well, besides Alvin Weifen and Cui'en who are in NTU, the majority of us are in NUS. Some working liao.
It was a good gathering to me. Really cherish those times we had. I do hope the next gathering is not too far away, and more people will come for it. But Thanks to everyone who made yesternight possible!

Insight learning?
I hope that i'm correct on this account, by classifying it as insight learning.
Cos, learning a skill such as swimming, it seems to me that it is more related to procedural memory.
I should say i'm still rather keen on swimming. Cos the benefits of swimming is for all to see. It truly exercises the whole body. I used to train with the school team during secondary school days, but i quit the team after half a year cos i simply couldn't take the training load. I was having basketball trg on Mon, swimming trg on Tue and Thur. Remember i used to collapse into a slumber the moment i reach home on Tue trg. Once, i reached home and turned on the computer. Once i sat down, before the computer boots up finish, i fell asleep on the chair liao.
Another ironic thing was that at that time, i only had a Intermediate cert in swimming, as compared to gold for all the other people, and i didn't really know how to swim front crawl.
So after this experience, i got more involved in swimming, but leisurely.
This is where my insight learning came in. In the following 1 year, i mastered front crawl, on my own. I didn't know how i did it... cos after i quit the swim team i was still struggling with that stroke. But taking a good rest, then trying it again, i seem to grasp the technique better.
During JC days, after another good period of not swimming, i went back to swimming more frequently again, and this time, i mastered the technique of swimming laps. I was able to control my breathing, and my breast strokes glide further and further.
Then recently, i was so involved in studies that i never really swam for a long time. Only went to sun tan more often. Just this few weeks, during my third last swimming session, i thought of trying to swim 10 laps in front crawl! Before that, i could only swim front crawl max 2 laps. But for this time, i just went, and relaxed my arms, and concentrate on saving strength to go for distance instead of speed. And there i go, 10 laps. For the first time i did it , in front crawl. Woh... now i really wonder why i tried so often in the past but couldn't do it, now i easily done 10 laps, and after such a long break too...
Then i recalled Insight learning in Psych. Is it that? Insight learning is like taking a break, come back to it later, and maybe your mind can piece the info in another way that back then you just cannot think of.
Yesterday, i went again. As i left off for the first round, i decided to change my pattern a bit, couple 2 pull with 4 kicks, and bingo! I completed this 12 laps in a faster timing than my 10 laps last week. My arms were much more tired, but it was good as it will help me to build up my arm muscles. i was able to go further and further and faster. Techniques that i was struggling with a while ago just seems to click suddenly and off you go.
Well, this is just a view... but i'm glad to be able to improve myself consistently.

Bruce Almighty!
If you could be God for one week, what would you do?
A single mum that takes on 2 jobs and
still finds time to take her kids to soccer practice.
That's a miracle.
A teangaer that says no to drugs
and yes to education.
That's a miracle.
People want me to do everything for them,
what they don't realise is...
They have the power.
You want to see a miracle son?
Be the miracle.
- by the "God" in the show, played by Morgan Freeman
Caught this on the movie Bruce Almighty.
Want to let everyone who reads this know how true it is.
There is so much we can do.
This is not a manifestation of Carl Roger's Self Theory, not so much of it.
This IS something worth remembering.
Make your choice, take the first step, and there is that much that we can do.
God Sees.

Battle Royale!
Ha... catching a lot of movies recently.
But i didn't buy them or watched them at the cinema
Got to download (d/l) the movies using BitTorrent and at a wonderful website, www.suprnova.org.
So yah... back to Battle Royale.
A rather violent show. But wat prompt me to write about the show was the friendship, bonds, and the appreciation of the movie.
Setting a whole class to kill each other off in a deserted island seems like the craziest of storylines. But now, it is a Japanese movie, so wat absurd storyline isn't common in Jap movies?
This show seems a bit like Volcano High, but Volcano High, a Korean movie, wasn't this bloody, this crude, this realistic.
It's really shocking, well you see, once the students are dispatched off one by one from the classroom, the action begins. Tendo, was the first to die, outside of the room that is, shot by an arrow thru the neck, by the guy numbered 1 on the register, with a Crossbow. He himself is killed 5 min later by another fellow classmate.
Then they start realising everything is real.
Everyone is SET AGAINST ONE ANOTHER FOR SURVIVAL.
True enough, there were people who did not want to kill each other, so some committed suicide, some were too kind and got murdered by others. Others turned devils, a few revealed all their evil sinister self. The very dangerman, was the transfer student, who supposedly signed up for the game! and he sure is dangerous, clocking the highest number of kills, and of cos the most number of atrocities.
Some of the more interesting characters are Mimuri, who manages to hack into the system that monitors them, and even with the help of another 2 friends, are ready to go bomb the school, which is the headquarters... until the transfer freak came over and finished them off.
Another would be Kawada, another transfer student, and a survivor himself of a past Battle Royale. His story, i leave to you to find out. But this guy saved the protagonist a lot of times, and was smart, and experienced (sure he has to .... ha).
One of the moments which really tested my belief of friendship was the scene where there was internal stife between the girls hiding at the lighthouse. 6 girls, got together, decided to survive it together. When Nanahara(the male lead) was injured and left to be treated with them, it caused the girls to fall out. One of the girls had witness Nanahara accidentally kill one guy b4, and so she was so scared that she decided to murder him with poison, but the poisoned spaghetti was eaten by the girl who was came back from her shift of sentry, and she vomitted blood and died. The other girls of course got suspicious and starting accusing each other, and in a gunfight, killed each other. Only the girl who put the poison didn't die, but she eventually committed suicide. she had to, she must be feeling so guilty. So dramatic, not exactly rational acting and plot, but tested the value of friendship, trust and bond so effectively.
What i meant by the appreciation on the movie, i have to credit to what i learnt in Theatre Studies. It has really helped me to understand things i watched a bit more.
One thing i noticed about the show was that there were scenes cut in which were like asides found in the theatre. It was a black screen with words, which explained the action sometimes, or voiced out the character's thoughts sometimes. I thought it was quite special for a movie, it sort of broke the momentum of the action, and gave me time to think of the values the show was trying to portray.
Another device used was the counting down. Once a person is killed, his/her name is displayed on the bottom half of the screen, with the figure of how many people were left. It really accelerate the action and tension, and builts up your expectation. You would start counting to see who's left besides the male and femaie lead.
Ha... enjoyed the show. Thought it wasn't a really masterpiece. Well compared to Kill Bill Vol 1, another show i watched , it was more enjoyable. Kill Bill had very unrealistic blood splattering scenes, and crazy ideas, but wat can we say, these are the elements so omnipresent in the martial arts movies of the past Hong kong movies! Can't really blame Qurentin Tarantino as you can see. Ha.
I will be burning the movies i download into cd-r. If you are interested to watch, can borrow from me. If not, you can download it at www.suprnova.org. Sometimes the website cock up, just refresh it, or close Internet Explorer, then open again. BitTorrent can be downloaded at www.animesuki.com
